The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Plc has stepped up its commitment to uplifting education in Nigeria as it commissions yet another block of classrooms at the United Community Secondary School in Ilorin Kwara State recently. In the last two years, the company has commissioned similar infrastructure in various public schools across Nigeria

Speaking at the event, the commissioner for Education Kwara State commended NBC for the laudable project stating that: "NBC is a great corporate citizen by rising to our clarion call to support public schools in the state for our pupils who cannot afford the cost of private schools.” He added that, he was excited to hear that Education and Youth Development are part of the CSR themes for NBC. This according to him aligns with the Kwara State Government's focus on Youth Development and recent restructuring of its portfolio to Education and Human Capital Development. The Commissioner congratulated the company for its 60 years of operation in the country. He further disclosed that, the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development will soon embark on provision of study materials to schools and encouraged NBC to support this initiative.

In his own comments, Mr. Njenga said, “as a company, this year marks our 60th anniversary of bottling the world’s most valuable soft drinks brand, Coca-Cola, in Nigeria and the longstanding relationship we have with the country has been built by the continued goodwill we enjoy from the people of this great country. We have no doubt that this goodwill is extended to us as a company as a result of our abiding commitment to delivering on our promise of refreshing Nigerians with premium quality whilst enriching lives in the different communities we operate in."

“This is just one of the numerous initiatives that NBC has embarked upon in communities close to our places of operation. The promise to deliver quality and enrich the lives of our communities is a promise we intend to continue to sustain to the best our resources. We will continue to provide support for our communities along the lines of our identified themes of water, youth development & education and health. These three areas have been proven time and again to be some of the major building blocks of any society." He continued.

The relationship between NBC and Ilorin, Kwara State, dates back to 1979, when the company opened its bottling plant there and it has been 32 years of peaceful coexistence. In providing the block of classrooms, NBC hopes that the gesture will further contribute to the development of the students of United Community Secondary School as well as assist the government of the State in achieving its overall goal of societal development. “We therefore hope that you will be further motivated in your educational activities and go on to build successful careers and lives as well as contribute to the continued development of our beloved state and country.” Mr. Njenga added.

The principal United Community Secondary School appreciated the kind gesture from NBC and urged the company to fully adopt the school as part of the private partnership program of the state.
